Helen Downs
I was raised in the Yakima valley, grew up in Sawyer &
went to Wapato
High School. Extended education in Yakima, Vancouver, & Seattle.
I've been singing professionally since High school, playing in a variety of
dance bands,
Rodeo shows, & performing for numerous private parties & shows. I
love doing the shows,
(such as the Farmer's Markets), It is a wonderful way to do my favorite music:
Old & New Country, Western, Swing, Pop, Blues, Comedy, Patriotic, Show
Tunes,
Old Classic Rock, and Especially my own Originals. One of my fortes is writing
special
songs for special occasion. I've written songs for The Kiwanis Club, The Ladies
Grotto club
and many local fund raising songs. I use humor and love on these songs.
I play a beautiful Vintage 12 string guitar when I sing, and also a
little bit of banjo & fiddle. I play electric Bass also. .
I've been musically inclined all my life, and feel very blessed to be doing
what I love to do.
Back in the earlier years I worked many rodeo shows with some wonderful music
stars,
like Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Triny Lopez, Jeannie C. Riley,
David Frazell,
Donna Fargo, & many more. Then a lucky break got my top 40 Pop trio performing
on the
Pacific Princess Love Boat, cruising the "Mexican Riviera". "
Wow! what a way to make a living! I should do that again!
Music has been very good to me, and now its time to give back, so I sing &
play guitar,
with my little Shelty, "Coalie", at local nursing & retirement
homes & senior centers.
I sing & he visits the residents. We are a dynamic duo, & Coalie is
a loving 4 legged friend.
We went to college at Seattle City University and he is now a Licensed Registered
Therapy dog.
Coalie is very good at his job!
I've written a song for Coalie called, "Love on a Leash", The title
song on my C.D.
I think it is a "hit", & the residents Love it! Just recently
I was contacted by the
developement crew on Oprah Winfrey, and she is interested in my song.
This is My first c.d. It is titled "Love on a Leash"! There are
Sixteen songs on it,
many are original, also included are Gospel and patriotic songs and five Yodeling
songs.
Life is good when you have music and a wonderful dog, and I'm truly blessed
to be back home again!
